Reactions trail Trump’s comment referring President Buhari as ‘lifeless’

Both Nigerians and the world have continued to react to the shocking statement published on the Financial Times, on Monday, alleging the United States President, Donald Trump referred to the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari as ‘lifeless’. US President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari during a joint press conference at the White House on April 30, 2018, in Washington, DC. / AFP In the report, it read “Donald Trump will welcome Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta to the White House on Monday for what will be only the second one-on-one meeting the US president has held with an African leader since he took office last year. It however added that “the first meeting with Nigeria’s ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April, ended with the US President telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter”. However, Nigerians and the world quickly took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to react to the comment. Below are their tweets: Buhari went abroad to call us criminals and lazy. So, if Trump calls him lifeless, nothing spoil. — Faisal (@JajaPhD) 27 August 2018 So @realDonaldTrump called Nigeria’s President @MBuhari “a lifeless person” and said “I don’t want to meet him again”! This is the same person @OfficialAPCNg is promoting for a 2nd term? No wonder our economy is so lifeless that 10 million Nigerians lost their jobs! #RenosNuggets — Reno Omokri (@renoomokri) 27 August 2018 This is why I am running for President, to get Nigeria working again. I helped grow Nigeria’s economy as VP and have created more jobs than anyone running for President in 2019. — Atiku Abubakar (@atiku) 27 August 2018 Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta will be meeting with President Donald Trump today in Washington on official business. Mr Trump, however, does not have nice words for Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, who he labeled “lifeless” after their meeting in April. Again, watch the whole encounter again. The disgust on Trump’s face was very visible. Man was just like ‘Shit when is this nonsense going to end’? — Wodu Wakiri The Wag (@Oddy4real) 27 August 2018 “Fantastically Corrupt”, “Lifeless” and many other choice words we would never hear about. Can anyone imagine what the President of West Germany thinks about PMB?  Everyone talks shitty about our shitty ass leaders in private. None of them are lies. To hell with the faux outrage — Adewunmi Emoruwa (@eadewunmi) 27 August 2018 Buhari: Nigerian youths are always waiting idle for resources to be in their favour, they are lazy.. DONALD TRUMP: Nigeria’s old president is so lifeless, I don’t wanna meet such in my life anymore…. pic.twitter.com/KRK10TPmXb — King (@theDamorela) 27 August 2018 Trump’s meeting with Buhari in April 2018 was reportedly not a success David Pilling reveals in an explosive Financial Times article. Trump said after the meeting with Buhari, he was not ready to meet someone so lifeless as Buhari again. pic.twitter.com/RGf3guG5ma — ThankGod Ukachukwu (@kcnaija) 27 August 2018 Even 72 years old Trump says Buhari is lifeless. “The first meeting, with Nigeria’s ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April, ended with the US president telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter”. pic.twitter.com/82QIerOjye — Adetutu Balogun (@Tutsy22) 27 August 2018 On this one, you can’t but not agree that @realDonaldTrump was spot on. @MBuhari has been a terrible ambassador for #Nigeria, and a disastrous leader. – https://t.co/ZdkJdO4se3 pic.twitter.com/OpiNrtubli — Chxta (@Chxta) 27 August 2018 If Donald Trump feels this way about Buhari, wait till he meets Buhari supporters.
